Walking a mile in the wrong shoes...

Hello Gentle Readers,

You ever have a day where you realize you’re a bit busy? I had that happen to me recently. It wasn’t, as you would expect, because I haven’t blogged in a while. Lag between blogs is pretty much the standard for all writers. Lags are cool.

No wait, bowties are cool. Also legs. Lags are not cool, sorry about that.

I teach in my real job. It’s not glamorous, but it pays the bills and allows me to have the internet. I like the internet, they have dancing monkeys and baby sloths. Also this blog. Which, you knew already, because you’re reading this.  The other day, our first day back in school, was a bit busy.

In one day I:

-          Had to tell my boss the same information three times, because apparently he forgot that we had just had this conversation.

-          Helped students find their classroom because someone decided to rearrange classrooms at the last second.
-          Rearranged the furniture in three classrooms because I’m the only man on our hall, and moving things is apparently what men are for.

-          Fixed the copier. This was actually less impressive than it sounded, since they do have instructions. And I can follow instructions.

-          When my boss, not the boss I had to tell three times, but his boss (yes I’m not actually the ONLY MAN on my hall that was sarcasm), when my bosses boss asked how I fixed the copier I wiggled my fingers and said “Magic”. She laughed.

-          Went out for drinks with co-workers.

-          Before that, I taught four classes in one day. It was a bit busy.

So, after that day, which was capped off with drinks at Ruby Tuesday’s, I came home to relax. It’s nice to relax every now and then, especially after a hard day’s work.

That was when I discovered something interesting: I was wearing two different shoes. Not like a brown and black dress shoe. Nope, I was wearing a hiking boot and a sneaker. It was that kind of day.

The Inherent Beauty Of Fields…

Hello Gentle Readers,

I hope your Pentecost Sunday went well. Even if you don’t celebrate Pentecost, I do hope your Sunday went well.

Its getting close to harvest time in the middle of nowhere, and as I drove by field after field, I caught sight of the beautiful symmetry and miracle of nature that is farming. Identical stalks, all at one level, all in carefully spaced rows...Reaching for the sun in their own way.

It was magnificent.

Enjoy the week my friends, and don’t drive so fast that you can’t take the opportunity to stop and smell the roses. Or in my case, corn.

New Ideas for Older Things

Hello Gentlereaders,

It has been a slightly hectic time professionally and artistically. Professionally, I’ve been cleaning out the studio in preparation for the fall, and the coming of students. We have an enormous amount of unused and wasted equipment. And, sadly, its outdated as well. I hate waste. I hate wasting food, I hate wasting money, and I hate having thousands of dollars in obsolete equipment.

Of course, I could always take the VHS cameras, the equipment, and the Betacam machines, and make the best UHF station ever. Then again, I would most likely have to broadcast it over the internet, but it would still be fun.

I’ll save that idea for later. Maybe.

Artistically, thanks to my wonderful friends at Staccato Publishing, The Five Santas is shaping up marvelously. We’re tweaking, reshaping, and working on the cover art. I’m also, sadly, having to abandon my initial idea for my follow-up book, instead re-writing my first novel and releasing it as Santas sequel.
That book needs a lot of work, and that’s what I’ve been mainly doing. Re-writing. Because let’s face it. Writing is re-writing. Art is not completed, only abandoned.

Hope all is well in your world Gentle Reader. Not Big Willy (Female) is coming along nicely in her pregnancy. She, Not Big Willy (Male), and of course Big Willy all say “Hi!” Or Neigh as the case may be.
