A Fateful Interview with Elizabeth Seckman

Hello Gentle Readers,

In keeping with Mimsey Madness, I’m attempting to post once a day, every day in March. In a moment of fun kismet (yes, I’m a guy who can use kismet unironically in a sentence) I’m able to use this opportunity to talk to one of my favorite writers in the whole wide world.

Longtime readers of the blog might recognize her

And for some reason she likes having me guest post.

So here to talk about her all new book Fate Intended give it up for the lovely and talented Elizabeth Seckman!

What got you into writing? Way back when, in a time before there was a DVR, I used to race home from school to watch “Another World” , the soap opera. My favorite character was Felicia Gallant, a romance writer with a penchant for high heels and boas. I wanted to be her when I grew up. Unfortunately, the boas make me sneeze and it's tough to dodge my cluttered floors in heels.

What is it about these characters that keeps you driving deeper into this series?  I'm a control freak. I hate to leave any questions unanswered. No one decides how this all ends up but me!

The book seems to be quite a wild ride. What was your favorite moment? Chatting with the Russian translator. She was so serious and when I kept asking her to translate words like, dumb a$$...she would be like, “Like a stupid donkey?”  Good times. Good times.

What was the hardest part to write? Let's talk about the sex baby! Sex scenes are so hard...no pun intended ;)

If you could have coffee with any of your characters, which would you most enjoy being around? Maureen Austin, Jenna's former mother-in-law!!! I love Maureen. I want her to live next door...she'd bake me cookies, weed my flower bed...heck she'd probably clean my house if I was sick. She's an awesome lady.

What’s the best place for you to write? I can write anywhere on anything...iPod, laptop, spiral notebook...I just can't write with people around. Novel writing takes being “in the zone”, ask me if we have any more toilet paper, and I'm out of the zone.

You have Russian’s, Chechen’s and everyone’s favorite Southern aristocracy The Coulters, which group was hardest to write? I was really nervous writing Sasha and Jane's dialogue. I read where the White House interpreters got the Russian on the infamous reset button wrong, and I'm pretty certain they didn't use the lowest bidder on eLance.com! I kept imagining scathing reviews for my inaccurate Russian slurs and toasts.

Who was easiest? Barbara Coulter, Trip's mom. We go way back and spending time together just felt natural.

What’s up next for this series? Working on an NA romance featuring the handsome eldest offspring, Tanner.

What can the Mimsey Readers expect next from The Seckman? Just signed a contract with my publisher for a historical romance, Bella's Point.

LIGHTNING ROUND:

Coffee or Tea...Tea! Much more versatile than coffee.

Cat or Dog...Sorry kitty, dogs stop burglars.

Football or Baseball...Football. Baseball is a little slow.

Angry Birds or Flappy Bird..Angry birds! Dang Flappy Bird drops dead when it hits the tunnel- you'd think it was a window!

McDonald's or Wendy’s...McDonald’s! Home of the Big Mac.

Bubble Bath or Chocolate...Come on, I didn't get a butt my size by avoiding chocolate!

And finally, how does it feel to be wrapping up an awesome book blog tour with a friend?
Wrapping up with a friend is awesome. When I get frustrated with the writing gig, I think back to how far I've come and how many wonderful friends I have made and I know, I am far more blessed than most top ten selling writers. Hugs to you my friend, I count you as a double blessing.

Fate Intended is the third book in the Coulter Men Series.  Trip is the last of the Coulter sons to find love. He’s a handsome man with all the skills a young spy needs to succeed. But when it comes to love, he misses the target. Jane is a sweet beauty who may or may not be wanted for murder. She’s hiding out as a cleaning lady when chance brings her and Trip together. It looks like a happily ever after is in the cross hairs until reality tries to destroy what fate has intended.

Elizabeth Seckman is a simple chick with a simple dream…to write stories people want to read.

  2. Thanks Alex! I know I could just close the door on the sex, but it always makes my betas yell foul. I doubt sci-fi readers request it quite as much.

  6. What a fun interview! I bet you could pull off a boa if you got one of those hyperallergenic ones! As for the heels, yeah, I'd break an ankle if I wore them around here too.
