Up, Down, and At Peace

Without anything being finalized, it looks like I’ll be self publishing the book.

In the back of my mind, I realized that this was coming, but I had hopes that Kensington Books might pick me up. They are the awesome people who I always describe as “The Cupcake mystery” people. I realize there are other book series they publish, but that’s what I always remember them as.

While they did reject my MS, they gave me some really great feedback, and I was very grateful for that. I love getting feedback, because as a part-time editor (video) I know everything can be improved.

So gentle reader, don’t get discouraged if like me you have a dream project, something you desperately want to see completed. It can happen. It will happen. BELIEVE.

Or as that true hero of dreamers everywhere, Kermit the Frog, said:

"I have a dream too, but it's about singing and dancing and making people happy. It's the kind of dream that gets better the more people you share it with. And I found a whole group of friends who have the same dream, and that makes us sort of like a family."

Keep the faith dreamers. I’m off to go feed Big Willy, Not Big Willy, and Also Not Big Willy, and then watch some Netflix.

The kid....

The lady who lives in the apartment above mine was just pulling in when I got home today. She had been feeling ill and I asked how she was, and said “Hi” to her kid.

As I was chatting with Mom, the kid, who I should point out is about six and who had just arrived home, decided to wee on a nearby tree.

There are few things that can match the hilarity of chatting with Mom while her kid is watering the plants nearby.
I walked inside, grabbed carrots for Big Willy and company, and came back out. Mom was grabbing stuff from her car, and I asked them both if they wanted to feed the horses.

Well apparently kid has baseball tonight, and Mom is on canteen duty. Her first day back from being sick with Strep throat, mind you. I confessed my admiration, and headed off to feed the horses.

Mom told the child to get in the house, which I laughed at. The kid turned to me and said “You get in the house!”

I came very close to yelling back “No you get in the house” back and forth. Unfortunately Mom had already pushed the wild child toward the stairs.

Still not sure if I should tell them the little brat’s responsible for one of my favorite blog posts yet.

Bwahahaha....

Hello Gentle Readers,

In celebration of my 20th blog post, I’d like to tell you a story. A story of the Bwahahaha. Now to be fair, the laugh has been around for quite some time. It represents a special time, a time when slightly deranged, but brilliant, men would often go about making experiments. Usually with the assistance of a hunchbacked assistant with a lisp. Though admittedly the lisp was optional.

It was a special time.

But, that’s not what this is about, gentle readers. As amusing as it would be to tell you about mad experiments to combine a colley and a sheep into, well, probably a very confused animal who could herd himself, no I want to tell you about one of my favorite heroes.

Yes, I have heroes. Fictional heroes. One of my favorites is a character named “The Blue Beetle”. He’s my avatar (no literally, that’s him, the Bwahaha guy). For some reason, I just love the idea of a guy who dresses all in blue (my favorite color) flies around in a beetle jet (seriously!) and wears goggles. If I could get away with goggles instead of glasses, I so would.

Because that would be awesome.

It doesn’t hurt that the Blue Beetle’s main weapon is a light gun, meaning a gun that shoots a blinding flash of light.

He’s, admittedly, a third rate super hero, but that’s part of his charm.

Plus he hangs out with a janitor from the 31st Century who stole a superhero costume and traveled back in time. And that man’s name is Booster Gold.

There’s just something inherently fun about two guys who hang out, sort of fight crime, and laugh uproariously at various things.

Thanks for sticking with me, and here’s to another twenty posts!

Saturday was an amazing day for me

To start with, I had lunch with a dear actor friend, who not only opened my eyes to the struggles actors go through, but also made me realize how little I actually knew of her.

Suffice it to say, she is an awesome glacier of experiences, and I barely know the tip. I can’t wait to see what amazing things are going to happen for her, and when she gets a website, I’ll be glad to share it with you, gentle readers.

I also went to a wedding, where two of my graduate school classmates were marrying. He’s a Director and respectable actor in his own right, and oddly enough a partial inspiration for my Dan Landis character. She’s an absolutely fantastic actress, comedienne, and all around great human being. I love them both dearly.

And then something magical happened. The two of them got married at a beach house, and it was pouring down rain. The moment the bride began marching, however, the rain stopped. The skies cleared. And as the bride and groom said their vows, a rainbow formed over their heads. It was an amazing and magical experience that I am obscenely happy to have witnessed.

On the drive home, I somehow found myself partnered with this one car. Now, I’m actually a great car to drive behind, as I do a pretty steady speed, always use my turn signal, and drive faster than the speed limit.

I guess the guy behind me realized this. Or else I was playing Bandit to his Snowman, and he was counting on me to get the cops attention.

But, I don’t believe that. I believe that for about 100 miles of interstate driving, we shared a special partnership. When I left to get gas, he flashed his lights and I waved.

Saturday was an amazing day for me.
