A Yogi and Mimsey walk into a bar: A Mimsey interview

Hello Gentle Readers,

It's always important for me to try and introduce you to all the fun people in my neighborhood. So, why not sit down and introduce an awesome Yogi that I know.

Always on the lookout for pickanick baskets!

A Yogi and Mimsey Walk Into A Bar: A Mimsey Interview

Tell the folks at home a little about yourself?

My name is Shannon.  I do theatre.  I do yoga so I won’t murder people.

What got you started in Yoga?
Mandatory sentencing.
JUST KIDDING!  I found yoga after graduating with my MFA in Acting in 2000.

What’ve been some positive experiences with doing Yoga?
Greater sense of peace, physical fitness, and overall well being.  It’s my magic carpet.  No matter what is going on, I ALWAYS feel better after yoga.  Also, I am much more accepting of my own body and empathetic to the physical challenges of others.
Apparently Yoga will take you to "A Whole New World"

What’ve been some challenges?
My own mind.  It’s always just a mental issue.  If I think I can’t, it’s the thinking that’s stopping me.

What advice would you give for people interested in Yoga?
Start.  Any is good.

What should you look for in a Yoga group and/or Yoga Instructor?
They should have national certification (training).  The credentials are RYT (Registered Yoga Teacher).  Other than that, you will find yourself gravitating to a teacher or style, then go with it!  There are great teachers and styles that I don’t prefer, but others do.  That’s normal.

What’s one common misconception people have about Yoga?
That it’s for skinny rich white chicks.

What’s your favorite position in Yoga?
Triange.  And we call them asanas.  Position sounds so naughty!
Can't tell if Triange or shirtless white dude stretching
before playing "Your Body Is A Wonderland
on acoustic guitar.
What would you say to someone who might be struggling with body image issues, and might feel intimidated about Yoga?
Find a teacher with a normal body.  They have felt the same things as you and can help you modify poses.

What do you do for fun?
I love to dance.  I can barely keep the dancing in check during the day.  All I really want to do is make flashmobs for a living.

Where can readers find more about you?
